Formerly an industrial powerhouse, it's one of the few working towns to successfully transition into a fashionable destination.  Further enlivened by its burgeoning International student community, its' modern renaissance sets it apart from other city-escape hotspots. And it would seem that travellers haven't even stumbled upon it yet - which makes it an absolute treasure to visit. It seems as though only Amsterdamers leaving the tourism-madness of their home behind realize Maastricht's beauty.

This is why we can't wait to head back for a weekend to live life like a Dutchie in this cultural hotbed (and birthplace of the European Union).

The former impressions of industrialism are everything but forgotten. The mines have become a network of underground passageways fit for exploring, and the ceramic works play host to the most desired modern-residential addresses in the city.  A run-down cathedral, factories, and trade-buildings have similarly been reborn as refuges of relaxation, wellness, and design.

That's why we couldn't be more delighted to receive an invitation from the new, boutique bed, breakfast and more - Hotel BE41 - an industrial-design accommodation in the heart of the city.

Barely in business for 18 months and still a bit wet-behind the ears, this establishment is already making a name for itself in Maastricht when it comes to guest experience. Boasting almost 1000 guest reviews and a 9.1/10 rating on Booking, it's clearly a must-do among travellers in the know. Housed in a 400+ year old building steps from the main square Vrijthof, it couldn't be more centrally located, either.

Stay tuned to this blog in mid-June for our top Maastricht tips as well as our reveal of Hotel BE41's unique design, and feel.

Designers, art-lovers, and those seeking out top-end accommodations won't want to miss this. And in case you're a Dutchie reading this, let us know where you like to go to revel in local culture when in Maastricht.
